The National Statistical Office of Mongolia together with the Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation organized and conducted this survey on artisanal and small-scale miners in the mining sector. A total of 13.4 thousand citizens were involved in the survey; by the end of 2012 they represented 1.2% of the economically active population and 14.1% of total unemployed citizens. Within the population surveyed, 78.2% of employment, 73.8% of total income and 73.3% of the value added are derived from gold mining activities.
