Shijir Khishig Partnership from Mandal Soum, Selenge Aimag has successfully passed the first year audit for the Fairmined Standard and received its certificate.
The Fairmined Standard is issued by the Association of Responsible Mining in Colombia. The certificate endorses that the gold mined by a certain organization has been mined without using chemicals and child labour, ensuring human rights, and without causing harm to the environment. In addition, those organizations receive a premium of 4000-6000 USD per kilogram of gold.
The Shijir Khishig Partnership Fairmined Certificate is the 2nd one not only in Mongolia, but also in the whole of Asia. The certification award ceremony was organized on January 15th, 2019 and attended by the; Mandal Soum Citizen Representative Khural B.Ganbold, representatives from the Emergency Management Agency, the Police Department, the Environmental agency, ASM National Federation, representatives of the Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project and miners.
Because the interest in purchasing accessories made of eco-gold is rising in Europe and other western countries, by increasing the number of Fairmined certified organizations and eco-gold will be a good incentive to develop a responsible ASM, to increase Mongolia’s reputation in the international arena and to sell this non-renewable resource with a value-added price.
