The planetGOLD Mongolia project organized a technology training for women artisanal miners from Gobi-Altai, Khovd, and Selenge provinces on May 29, 2024 in Mandal soum, Selenge province, Mongolia.
A total of fourteen women miners took part in the training, which included both in-person workshop and a field trip to the project's mercury-free processing facility (MFPS).
In the first half of the training, women artisanal miners were instructed on the MFPS's technological process as well as the project’s experiences with CRAFT Code implementation. Miners also learnt about the important results and recommendations from the project's most recent qualitative study, "Assessing the Gap: Artisanal Gold Miners and Social Services".
In the second half of the training, participants visited the MFPS and experienced every step of the gold ore processing, from the raw ore to the final gold. They also learned about the associated equipment, as well as MFPS maintenance and consideration.
Women artisanal miners therefore gained knowledge and skill in processing initial ore to final gold, and they stated that this training was extremely beneficial in introducing these methods into their ASM organizations.
