The competition aims to raise awareness among elementary and middle schoolers about the harmful effects and toxicity of mercury and advocate against the hidden use of mercury in ASGM communities, Mandal soum and Tunkhel village, Selenge province, Mongolia. Consequently, the award ceremony of the competition was held in Tunkhel village and Mandal soum on September 30 and October 1, respectively.
The number of children who joined the competition, which was 515 in total, broke previous records for participation at any local level.
Winners were recognized with awards, and all of the artworks were exhibited to participants and their legal guardians during the award ceremony. The children were joyful, and they expressed appreciation for learning about the hazards that mercury poses to people and the environment.
The children's artwork reflected a deep concern for environmental protection, which delighted the event's organizers.
Also, the project team and co-organizers emphasized the importance of the event in raising awareness among the younger generation about the dangers of using mercury.
