On October 5, 2021, the Minister of Mines, G.Yondon, held an online meeting with representatives of the Mongolian Artisanal Small-scale Mining National Federation.

During the meeting, G. Munkhtsetseg, Executive Director of the Mongolian Artisanal Small-Scale  Mining National Federation, said that the current situation in the artisanal mining sector, 2 years of the slow process of approving Government Regulation 151 and the uncertainty of the legal environment caused by some of the challenges facing the sector. Such as the growing number of illegal activities, because of the bankruptcy of local small and medium-sized businesses due to the pandemic, and they entry into the sector. It will maybe lead to the new Gold Rush!!!

She requested to the Minister to speed up the process of approving the regulation of artisanal and small-scale mining, otherwise the number of deaths and number of illegal artisanal miners will keep growing due to the uncertainty of the legal environment.

G.Yondon, Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry: The regulation of artisanal and small-scale mining re-approving  process has been delayed indefinitely. This is because, in connection with the revision of the Constitution of Mongolia, amendments to the accompanying organic law will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers this autumn, after which amendments to the Minerals Law will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval and  after that artisanal mining regulation will submit to Government.
