The Mid term review (MTR) of Phase 3 confirmed the success of the SAM Project intervention strategy. The project aims to consolidate the remarkable progress made towards responsible community mining within an enabling legal framework. Recent reforms create a platform for sustainable ASM, yet persistent human rights issues and the informality of the supply chain must be addressed in order to realise the sectors’ full development potential. The SAM Project (Phase 4) seeks to fill these gaps as recognised in the MTR, address the challenges and transform Mongolia into an international knowledge hub for ASM Best Practice.
